A Conversion of an Old Office Space to A Family Dwelling
The concrete structure of the building, in Amsterdam, inspired the selection and combination of materials. Exposed beams and columns have been sandblasted to enhance their rough texture while new concrete floors (with floor heating underneath) are polished to create a strong contrast differentiating the old and new application of the same material. The open kitchen space is defined by a dropped ceiling and green wall (additionally softened by a layer of a translucent floral patterned material) which contrasts with the plaster ceiling and concrete surfaces. American walnut was used for a majority of the furniture which brings a warmth and softness to the organic finishes.
