The Plastiki model ship made of paper
You’ve heard of a ship in a bottle but have you heard of a ship made out of bottles? Can you imagine sailing the open seas on a boat made almost entirely out of plastic bottles? This is exactly what environmental storyteller David de Rothschild and his intrepid crew of scientists, sailors and adventurers are doing on the Plastiki - an ocean going mission to beat waste. And now it’s your turn to get in touch with your inner pirate, adventurer and boat builder. Shiver your timbers; create a cabin, produce a poop deck and raise the mast on your very own Plastiki; an exact scale model of the one-of-a-kind 60-foot catamaran that will be sailing the high seas - no eye patches or wooden leg needed! The Plastiki model is manufactured and designed by Jamily (www.jamily.co.uk) in Manchester UK. The model is made from FSC approved card and printed locally using sustainable vegetable inks. Every stage of the manufacturing process was designed to produce minimal waste and efficient use of energy. 50% of profits will be donated to the Sculpt The Future Foundation.
