LOFOT table by FINNE Architects

This sinuous table is part of an ongoing design investigation into the qualities of interlocking and interwoven forms. The table consists of two interlocking, curvalinear planks of bent mahogany with a steel base that is similarly made from interlocking bent pieces of ½” steel plate. The technical challenges of forming the bentwood top were daunting, and the table top also had warping problems stemming from the “stored energy” in the bentwood planks. The finished top has a subtle variety of color deriving from the many layers of 1/8” thick mahogany pieces, all bent to the same flowing, curvilinear shapes. Size: 3’-5” x 8’-0” Materials: Bentwood mahogany and blued steel
