47% House by Kochi Architect

Not necessarily named for its 100% completion of stellar design, the 47% house is a private home that provides a number of reasonably-sized outdoor programs. The entire layout supports exterior spaces from the 47% of the total building footprint summed up from its interior floor. The Tokyo-based company Kochi Architect Studio designed this two-storey structure that incorporates a small garden, outside terrace, and an elevated entrance hall which opens up a gateway to the environment. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all accommodated in a communal space accessed from an outdoor staircase. A dark shell cascades around the homes' exterior shading the terrace and entrance hall. The line between exterior and interior is a hazy one as the floor-to-ceiling glazing of the second storey engages this architecture with a harmonious dialogue within the area.
