004 House by Hideyuki Nakayama

An outstanding home in a new residential development in Matsumoto, Japan, began with “sketches of a girl sleeping on a blanket with a floor hovering above her.” The two-story structure reveals almost nothing of its interior organization from the outside. A sunken living room connects with the lot through a strip of glass that runs the perimeter of the house at ground level. Inside, “ambiguous spatial relationships,” centered around a “black slab [that] acts as a mezzanine as well as a place to eat and gather.” More at Hideyuki Nakayama.
