LICHTAKTIV House By Katrina Fey

An energy-self-sufficient, carbon-neutral residence in Hamburg, Germany, resulting from the extreme retrofit of an existing house from the 1950s. Solar panels, passive solar collectors, and use of natural light and natural ventilation do the heavy lifting for the energy needs, which include 63% for heating, 27% for hot water, and the rest for household and building services. The design, by Katharina Fey, a student at the Technical University in Darmstadt, won the German division of the major European VELUX Model Home 2020 competition.
