Soapstone Countertop, Soapstones

Soapstone is coming into it’s own once again as a countertop material. It is a metamorphic rock that is primarily composed of talc and has a smooth soapy feeling. The stone is light green/gray when fresh from the quarry, but its surface oxidizes over time, deepening in color and developing an attractive patina. Softer than marble or granite, it is easy to repair nicks and chips in its surface. The only maintenance required is a mineral oil treatment to enhance the natural darkening process.
