Spiral Torque #2

Here's the second iteration of this spiral torque motif . I tried a slightly new technique that is giving me favorable results allowing me to control the deformations and collapsing as I twist the bar with one hand and torch heating with the other. The key is to PULL TENSION as you twist. This lays up the ridges more evenly...It's still quite a chore to try and keep the seams from opening up when I wrap it around the neck form for the final heat but it does seem to be an improvement. What I find most curious and surprising is the amount of material that is taken up in the twisting.I started with a 24" bar and it's been reduced to 16" overall.
