The Grand Elephant

Les Machines de lile, monumental mechanical structures open to the public, imagined by Francois Delarozire and Pierre Orefice, is an unprecedented artistic project. Nantes Metropole decided to breathe new life into the site of the former shipyards by creating a large-scale tourist and cultural project, as part of the urban redevelopment of the ile de Nantes. The first machines came to life in 2007 with the Grand elephant's first stroll and the visit of the Galerie des Machines.
